Willie Nelson Pretty Paper
December 1, 2007
Willie Nelson’s quintessential Christmas song was included on his 1979 album by the same name. It’s one of my all time favorites. Very short, very poetic, and sung in a way that pretty much discourages anyone else from even attempting it.
Crowded streets busy feet hustle by you
Downtown shoppers Christmas is nigh
There he sits all alone on the sidewalk
Hoping that you won’t pass him by
Should you stop better not much too busy
Better hurry my how time does fly
And in the distance the ringing of laughter
And in the midst of the laughter he cries
The whole album is a winner. I said in an earlier post that I loved Alabama’s Christmas album because of all of the originals on it. I love Pretty Paper because Willie sings all the old standards like no one else can.
This post is part of a series called Twelve Days of Classic Country Christmas.

You do know that Willie wrote “Pretty Paper”, right?
yeah, I should have said that originally. I think that it’s the only original on the whole album, but I like Willie doing all the old standards.
Who is the woman singing with him?
