Don Williams Lord I Hope This Day is Good
September 7, 2007I think there are quite a few people who aren’t sure exactly what it is about classic country music that makes it so much better than modern country. There is definitely something different there, but they aren’t sure what it is. I have a pretty good idea–honesty and believability. Honesty is something that everyone can relate to, and what made country music so great to begin with. Modern country may have lots of entertainment value, but where is the honesty in songs like “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” or that stupid song about directions and turnip greens.
Want to hear a truly honest song? Check out Don Williams’ “Lord, I Hope This Day is Good”:
Lord, I hope this day is good
I’m feeling empty and misunderstood
I should be thankful, Lord, I know I should
But Lord, I hope this day is good
Everybody has been there. You don’t even have to believe in God to know exactly what this song is about and what the singer is feeling. You can really relate to it. That’s why you actually believe that the singer is truly feeling it–everybody has felt it.
All of these ridiculous story songs about some life changing event…ahh. Let me hear a song about every day life that I can relate to. Let me hear a song about a day I’ve experienced myself. THAT is the stuff a great country song is made of.
