Kenny Rogers — Recognize the Good Stuff

Driving to work the other day I heard “Ruby” by Kenny Rogers, which I think is one of his best songs along with “You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Lucille”.  It seems to happen pretty often in country music that the artist’s best songs are not his/her most famous.  For Kenny Rogers, “The Gambler” is by far is most popular song, but I think he has several others that are better including “Ruby”, “Lucille”, and even “Through the Years”.  I mean, can it get much better than this:

If I could move I’d get my gun and put her in the ground
Oh Ruby, don’t take your love to town

The one guy that comes to mind when I think about people who’s biggest hits are among their worst songs is John Anderson.  Swingin’” is his biggest hit, but I think it’s probably the worst song he ever recorded.

“Elvira” by The Oak Ridge Boys
“Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks
“Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus.  Not that I know of any other song he has that is better, but I can’t imagine anything worse.
