Charlie Daniels — Uneasy Rider
June 11, 2007This is one of my all time favorite story songs. The story of the song is good, but not what makes this song one of my favorites. The one liners in the lyrics to me are what really make this song stand out:
“He may look dumb, but that’s just a disguise”
“I reached out and kicked ol’ Green Teeth right in the knee”
“I ain’t even got a garage, you can call home and ask my wife”
Anyway, the story is about a hippie-ish country guy (back when that’s what Charlie Daniels was) driving out to California who has some car trouble in Mississippi and consequently has a run in with some good ol’ boys down there. He outwits them long enough to get into his car and escape the trouble.
Charlie Daniels - All Time Greatest Hits
Charlie Daniels has since renounced any kind of questionable behavior he talked about in his old songs. The funny thing is that he wrote another song later that was basically Uneasy Rider Part II where he and his buddy end up in a gay bar. I don’t think the magic of the first one exists in the second song.
