Janie Fricke — Janie Freaky
May 13, 2007I watched a show my parents TiVo’d last night that was a little scary. It was called “Janie Fricke You Oughtta Be in Pictures”. It was her first (and only that I know of) television special. Before I get to what was so weird about it, I’ll tell you what was good. She had some great guests–Conway Twitty, Alabama, John Schneider, Roger Miller, Lynn Anderson, and Ray Stevens.
Conway Twitty did “Heartache Tonight”, Alabama sang “Lady Down on Love”, Roger
Miller did a medley of his songs, and Ray Stevens did a funny song called “Janie Fricke, I’d Give You a Hicky”. All of these were good and entertaining. The only creepy part was seeing Janie Fricke sitting on a stool watching Alabama do their song. She did Roger Miller’s medley with him, and that wasn’t bad either.
By the time Lynn Anderson came out I couldn’t take anymore, so I forwarded through it. This had a lot to do with her segment with John Schneider. It was obvious from the get-go, and by the name of the special, that Janie Fricke was trying to use this special as a step towards a movie/Broadway career. Her segment with Schneider was a medley of popular Broadway tunes. This was absolutely surreal. John Schneider is a great singer, and he did well with the songs, but it was just strange watcing them pretend to be on Broadway.
The scariest part of the whole show was watching Fricke perfrom her own songs. I don’t know if she has a history of drug use, but she seemed like she was on something the entire time. We were talking the whole time we were watching it how, “this is not country”.
It was just plain weird.

This mist be an old post on the web, because Conway Twitty has been dead since June 5,1993. Janie Fricke is one of the best Female Country singers of all time.
that special is from 1983. it’s not an old post, just an older TV special being discussed which featured Conway as a guest star along with Ray, Roger Miller, and some others.
