Old Five and Dimers Like Me
May 3, 2007I’d totally forgotten about this song. I haven’t heard it in so long. Lot’s of artists have cut this song–Billy Joe Shaver (who wrote it), Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Tom. T. Hall, Jerry Jeff Walker.
What makes classic country music so great to me is how the good song writers can get a very complicated (dare I say deep) thought across in such a simple and easy to understand way. There is one line in this song that sums up a whole
lot of living in five little words.
Fenced yards ain’t hole cards
The Tom T. Hall version ends with a nice little spoken part too..
You know, country people don’t shine their boots very often. And they don’t shine other people’s boots either. Thank you.
