Johnny Cash - At San Quentin (1969)
April 24, 2007Johnny Cash’s live album recorded in California’s San Quentin prison is a far cry from the flower child hippie stuff other people were releasing at the time. Cash played in various prisons throughout his career, and the recordings at San Quentin and Folsom Prison both produced highly successful albums. The original release of At San Quentin on wax was edited and included only ten
tracks–I’m lucky enough to have this on wax as my dad is a huge Johnny Cash fan. There is also a “Legacy Edition” that includes 2 CDs and a DVD documentary about the concert. I don’t own this, but I’ve seen the documentary and it is really good. The highlight for me on this record has always been “Boy Named Sue”, which was written by Shel Silverstein.
