One of my all-time favorite Haggard songs. There’s a lot to say about this song, not only the fitting performance of it, but how well written it is. You would probably get slapped in the mouth by any real country fan if you tried to make the assertion that this song isn’t country. Yet look [...]

A lot of people would say “Seven Year Ache” isn’t really a country song. They may even say Roseanne Cash isn’t country. She lives in New York after all. But I think when your name is Cash you automatically get a little leeway. Whether it’s country or not, “Seven Year Ache” is a terrific tune [...]

Usually an ear worm is a bad thing to have, but the one I had this weekend was pretty good. I can’t think of a better song than “Dixieland Delight” to have going through my head for 48 hours straight. Seriously, is there anyone out there who has ever heard this song and doesn’t love [...]

Enjoy this clip from Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash to get your Monday morning going! I like to imagine after finishing this performance, Johnny and Waylon walked out of the back of the building and started a fight with 4 or 5 guys, knowing they were going to lose. Real Outlaw!!!

88 years old today…fingers of fury!!! I can only imagine what type of musician Earl Scruggs would have been if he’d come of age during the era of thrash metal music. Probably the fastest guitar player in the world. I for one am glad he picked up the banjo instead of a Stratocaster.

Talent. Smooth talent. I think Glen Campbell could have gotten by with either his singing or his guitar playing, but the guy is great at both. This video is proof of both, and it’s probably my favorite Glen Campbell song. If you ever get a chance to check out some old episodes of the Glen [...]

Son! I say Yeah!!! This video is amazing. I have a friend who grew up out in Utah in the 80s and 90s and hasn’t had a whole of exposure to classic country music. When I brought up Jerry Reed the other day, he’d never even heard of him. Now, my buddy is a pretty [...]

I stumbled across this video the other day about one of my favorite Kris Kristofferson songs–”To Beat The Devil”. When we talk about the void of songwriting in today’s country music, here’s a song you can point back to and say, “who’s writing stuff like this?” Besides the interviews telling the great story (and happy [...]

Hal Ketchum’s “Five O’Clock World” showed up on one of my Pandora stations last night, and I was reminded how much I dig this guy. Very subtle, very smooth voice, and very underrated. I know that “Small Town Saturday Night” is probably his best known and most successful radio hit, but I’m very partial to “Past [...]
